Announcing AI Tools and Services for Academic Innovation

LTIC is excited to announce that we are making available new AI tools and services for faculty to use in their academic work, thanks to a partnership with ARC, UBC’s unit for Advanced Research Computing.

As of April 1, UBC has taken a huge step in empowering faculty in leveraging AI for teaching, experimentation, and discovery, by investing in technology, services, and people! With strategic investment in both on-premises infrastructure and Canadian-based cloud compute and storage, faculty can pursue innovation in fields that require secure domestic data residency at a fraction of the cost of many commercial services.

Within that broader strategic initiative, we, here at the Learning Technology Innovation Centre (LTIC), are launching new AI tools and services to enable instructors to explore and apply AI technologies to transform teaching and research, while preparing students for success after graduation.

At first, the LTIC tool offerings will roll out slowly, while we gauge need and appetite for different kinds of services, and while our infrastructure comes online. If you want early access to our tools, please sign up to pilot them!

Vitally, LTIC wants to make sure that faculty can enhance or innovate in their academic work, regardless of their technical background. LTIC’s incubator can support the full process, from ideation, through build, to deployment. LTIC also works with teams to develop solutions that meet data privacy and security requirements where needed.

LTIC is absolutely thrilled to be able to offer these tools and services, and it wouldn’t be possible without a close working relationship with our colleagues at ARC – Advanced Research Computing. Together we have worked hard over the last eighteen months to frame and build out a multi-stage plan to enable all faculty members to turn their AI-powered innovation dreams a reality.
