AI for Academic Innovation

LTIC helps faculty, from any discipline and any degree of technical background, use AI in their academic work and turn educational technology ideas into reality. We provide tools and platforms you can experiment with and build on, and we can incubate your ideas, through technical mentorship, help with hiring, and developing bespoke tools you can use in your teaching practice.

AI Tools, Platforms & Services

Beta test: Local AI Platform

Our UBC-hosted AI Platform, similar to commercial chat, GPT/agent-makers, and analysis tools, gives faculty members a secure space for AI-powered work, even with sensitive data.

Beta test: Chatbot Plugin

The Web Chatbot Plugin embeds a chat assistant in your UBC WordPress course or blog, enabling students to ask questions about course content on demand.

Get going: LLM API Access

Do you need direct API access to a private, open-source Large Language Model? We can get you set up.

Your team: The Learning Technology Incubator

Do you have an idea for how AI could transform your academic work? We are here for you! The LT Incubator partners with faculty members across all domains at UBC to bring these ideas to life. We provide technical leadership, hire and manage the development team, and handle the administrative overhead so you can stay focused on vision and strategy. Or, if you just want advice and mentorship, we do that too!

See how a multidisciplinary team of faculty members and students worked with us to build BiocBot, an AI-powered biochemistry study buddy tool for students.

About the Academic AI Infrastructure

LTIC support for AI-enabled teaching is made possible by strategic UBC investments, and a strong collaboration with UBC’s Advance Research Computing Centre (ARC), in on-premises and cloud infrastructure that enables private and secure work with large language models (LLMs). Whether your work involves sensitive data, requires Canadian data residency, or simply needs high-powered compute, LTIC can help you find the right solution.

Responsible Enablement

LTIC is committed to ethical, sustainable, and responsible acquisition and application of technology.
